INDIA
TOUR
THE TOUR
Shubh first started dreaming up an India tour on a Google Doc years ago, writing down ideas of what an ideal tour would involve. In February 2018 that became a reality when his band was invited to perform at the Udaipur World Music Festival. The band organized concerts, workshops and clinics in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Udaipur. While in New Delhi, they also recorded five live-in-the-studio music videos featuring some of the most prominent artists in the Indian independent music scene including Shadow and Light, Dhruv Visvanath, Chayan and Smiti, Pakshee, and Saptak Chatterjee.
RECORDING SESSION
One of the most exciting parts of the tour was the collaboration between Shubh’s band from New York City and musicians from New Delhi. There’s a sound in the independent music scene in India that doesn’t exist anywhere else. It’s fresh and modern, resulting from musicians working hard to create something authentic from the ground up. It’s a mixture of influences from Indian classical music to commercial film music and music from abroad in different doses to make something new and exciting. Recorded completely live, each artist brought something different to the session showcasing the diversity of Indian music.
WORKSHOPS
Shubh and the members of his band are alumni and professors of some of the finest music institutions in the world, including New York University and the Berklee College of Music. While on tour, the band hosted clinics and workshops on topics ranging from the life of a working musician in New York City to composition techniques and improvisation concepts in contemporary music.
